Microsoft has announced a 'bounty' program in a bid to encourage developers and security experts to find exploits in its upcoming products like Windows 8.1

Under the program, which will launch on June 26, Microsoft is offering to pay up to $100,000 USD for "truly novel exploitation techniques" against protections built into the latest version of its operating system Windows 8.1 Preview.

Windows 8.1 is a major update to Microsoft's brand new operating system Windows 8, and given the serious bounty on offer, Microsoft clearly wants to leave nothing to chance as far as securing the operating system is concerned. The $100,000 amount is a big enough incentive for individuals to spend serious time and effort trying to find exploits in the OS, but for Microsoft it is pocket change to secure one of its most important release.

Microsoft is also offering an additional $50,000 BlueHat Bonus for those who submit a valid defence to block a bypass technique that qualifies for a bounty, bringing total potential reward to $150,000 for a single exploit.

Microsoft has posted details of the program that indicate individuals must be at least 14 years old to participate. It has also posted details on what qualifies as an exploit, and how developers or security experts can submit their entries. Though there are no restrictions on the number of qualified submissions an individual submitter can submit and be paid for, all bounties will be paid out at Microsoft's discretion, which may indeed be considerably less than $100,000.

In the event more than one party submit the same exploit, Microsoft will consider not only time and date of submission, but also quality and complexity to be the deciding factor for eligibility of payment of the bounty.

Microsoft has also announced a separate bounty program for Internet Explorer, where it is offering to pay up to $11,000 USD for critical vulnerabilities that affect IE 11 Preview on Windows 8.1 Preview.

Super Moon for Sunday

A “supermoon” rises this weekend. The biggest and brightest full moon of the year graces the sky early Sunday as our celestial neighbor swings closer to Earth than usual.

While the moon will appear 14 percent larger normal, skywatchers won't be able to notice the difference with the naked eye. Still, astronomers say it's worth looking up and appreciating the cosmos. “It gets people out there looking at the moon, and might make a few more people aware that there's interesting stuff going on in the night sky,” Geoff Chester of the U.S. Naval Observatory said in an email.

Some viewers may think the supermoon looks more dazzling but it's actually an optical illusion. The moon looms larger on the horizon next to trees and buildings.

The moon will come within 222,000 miles (360,000 kilometers) of Earth and turn full around 7:30 a.m. EDT (1130 GMT), making it the best time to view.

As in any supermoon event, high tides are forecast because of the moon's proximity, but the effect is expected to be small. Forget about the myths that swirl every time a supermoon appears. There's no link to higher crime or bizarre behavior. Scientists say that's just lunacy.

China has build road 5 km in Indian LAC

Leh: India and China may have announced an end to their 20-day stand-off in Ladakh sector, but the situation has not entirely settled down judging from a recent incident when the Chinese intercepted an Indian Army patrol and prevented it from going to Line of Actual Control (LAC).

The incident took place near Finger-VIII area, also known as Siri Jap, on May 17, two days before Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang arrived in New Delhi after it was announced that the stand-off resulting from a 19-kilometre deep Chinese intrusion had ended. It was claimed that the intruding Chinese troops had gone back to their previous positions.

While the Udhampur-based Army spokesperson refused to comment on the incident, official sources said there was a brief stand-off at the Finger-VIII area after which army patrol returned without proceeding to the LAC.

The sources said that after the incident all patrols were stopped by the Ladakh-based 14 corps including the one proposed to be sent in Depsang plain, where Chinese Army had pitched tents for nearly three weeks beginning from April 15.

China has managed to construct a road upto Finger–IV area which also falls under Siri Jap area and is five km deep into the LAC, the sources said.

Chinese claim in their maps that this area falls under its area where as Indian Army has been claiming it to be part of Ladakh and have often cited the 1962 war when armies of both the sides fought bitter battles in this area. Major Dhan Singh Thapa was awarded Param Veer Chakra for fighting PLA in the area.

However, as the Indian side was trying to back its claim at the negotiating table, the Chinese Army constructed a metal-top road and claimed the area to be part of Aksai Chin area, the sources said, adding many a times the Indian army has used the same road to patrol the area and lay claim over it.

The Chinese intrusion in the remote Daulat Beg Oldi sector on April 15 appears to have been triggered by construction of an observation tower in Chumar division.

The Chinese side, according to the minutes of the flag meetings held as late as in the last week of March this year, had been objecting to the construction of the watch tower along the Line of Actual Control in Chumar division, 300 kms from here.

After the announcement that the stand-off has been resolved, Indian security patrols in certain areas such as Rocky Knob have been curtailed, the sources said.

Chumar, a remote village on Ladakh- Himachal Pradesh border, has been an issue for Chinese which claim it to be its own territory and have been frequenting it with helicopter incursions almost every year. Last year, it dropped some of the soldiers of PLA in this region and dismantled the makeshift storage tents of the Army and ITBP.

This area is not accessible from the Chinese side whereas the Indian side have a road almost to the last point on which the army can carry a load upto nine tonnes.

There appears to be some lack of coordination among various Indian defence forces. The Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has complained to the Union Home Ministry that they had been kept out of the May 5 flag meeting with the Chinese by the Army when the decision to withdraw forces on both sides was taken.

A 19-year-old tribal woman was allegedly gangraped by three persons in Chatra district, police sources said today.

The 19-year-old married tribal woman had come to witness the Ramnavmi procession on Friday in Chatra town when she was abducted by three youths who later allegedly gangraped her, Superintendent of Police Arun Birthery said.

The SP said that two persons have been arrested in this connection after a FIR was lodged on the basis of statement given by the victim for abduction and gangrape.

The woman has been sent to Sadar Hospital, Chatra for medical check-up, Birthery he said adding that the police has launched a hunt to apprehend one more accused, who was reported at large.

Meanwhile, today BJP activists have put up a road blockades on the main thoroughfare of Chatra township in Chatra district since morning today demanding immediate arrest and stringent action against the culprits involved in the gangrape of the woman on the Ramnavami day.

Hundreds of party activists squatted on the busy Kesri Chowk disrupting the road traffic in support of their demand.

Profol a Powerful Sedative

Propofol, a powerful sedative has been recovered from Michael Jackson's home, raising stakes over the role of prescription drugs in the singer's death.

The medicine, marketed under the brand name Diprivan, was among the other drugs and "medical evidence" recovered from the singer's Holmby Hills mansion, Los Angeles Times reported quoting law enforcement sources.

Propofol is a powerful medicine, which is used to put people under anesthesia before surgery.

One of the most widely used IV drugs for general anesthesia, the medicine is extremely effective and available only to medical personnel.

Jackson died last Thursday after a suspected cardiac arrest. The toxicology reports, which will determine the cause of death, are still awaited.

Space Walk

A pair of spacewalking astronauts plugged in some big, new, fancy batteries at the international space station on Wednesday (July 22), working out on a distant ledge. It was the third spacewalk in five days for the shuttle Endeavor crew. Veteran spaceman David Wolf and Christopher Cassidy, a newcomer to orbit, had four 9-year-old batteries to change. It was harder than it sounded.

Plane Crash Video

A plane crashes and then collides with a car. The impact of the collision tore the bottom frame off the airplane and left it and the car in a nearby field. Miraculously no casualties were reported with the pilot suffering only scratches and the couple in the car which was hit suffering minor injuries. Police in the town some 30 miles southeast of Frankfurt in western Germany said the plane's pilot was performing aerial acrobatic manoeuvres before it struck the family's car, which was parked on an access road near the air field.

Today is one of the day when people witness Sun in the dark shadow & the Diamond ring will follow the light of new era. Today’s solar eclipse is the longest of all the eclipse of the century. Next total eclipse is on 13-Jun-32.

In ancient China, the solar and lunar eclipses were regarded as heavenly signs that foretell the future of the Emperor; predicting eclipses were of high importance for the state. Over four millenniums ago, two Chinese astrologers were murdered as they failed to predict a solar eclipse.
The ancient Chinese believed that solar eclipses occur when a legendary celestial dragon devours the Sun. They also believed that this dragon attacks the Moon during lunar eclipses. In the Chinese language, the term for eclipse was "chih" which also means "to eat". One ancient Chinese solar eclipse record describes a solar eclipse as "the Sun has been eaten".
It was a tradition in ancient China to bang drums and pots and make loud noise during eclipses to frighten that dragon away. Even more recently, in the nineteenth century, the Chinese navy fired its cannons during a lunar eclipse to scare the dragon that was eating the Moon.
India myth - Rahu, one of the most notorious demons of the Hindu myth, was rubbed the wrong way by the sun. Myth has it that Vishnu, God of all Gods churned the oceans to usher in peace. This was at the end of a bitter war between the Gods and demons. At this time, Dhanvantri, the fountain head of medicine,emererged with necter. This was too good for the demons to let go.Vishnu manage to get it across the Gods, but Rahu, disguised as a God tried to get some nectar for himself.The sun and the moon saw this happenning and informed Vishnu, who immediately chopped off Rahus head. Rahu lived on though bodyless, because he had managed a sip of the nectar. But he never forgave the sun or the moon and periodically eats either one up.
